All ABout Inks: (What do the different types of Ink do?)

There are lots of ink options available and the various selections can be overwhelming to a beginner or even a seasoned paper crafter.

Waterbased Inks (Most Common). They should be acid free (if you are scrapbooking) and they are great for general stamping. I have found that you get what you pay for with these. There are some really inexpensive options out there at craft stores and other retailers, but, I find if you pay for the better quality ink, it will provide a better image and last longer. (I have heard of SU demos that have used the same ink pads for upwards of 4 years with out re-inking) I simply dont believe a cheap ink pad will last long (they tend to dry up fast)or give you teh same quality as the ink that specifically created for creative stamping (like the inks offered by Stampin' Up!)

Dye Based Archival Ink....this is waterproof, non smearing ink. It is great for scrapbooking.

Pigment inks are water based and formulated to stamp on absorbent papers. Ideal for embossing on coated or nonabsorbent papers because they are slow drying which also gives them a long shelf life.

Craft Ink....generally a thicker ink, may have to be heat set to get it to dry quickly. These inks provide a very rich color.

Distress Inks...these are the ones that have Tim's Holtz's name on them. They are alcohol based and are GREAT for doing techniques and inking edges. They don't stamp well because they dry much too quickly. I find other alchol inks are great for coloring book style images, they provide great color and dry fast, so you avoid smudging. (I use copic markers, but I guess I shouldnt say that ;)

Staz On....is great for porous or glossy surfaces. Comes in a huge range of colours. It is awesome on acrylic albums, transparencies, glass, glossy paper and so on. I actually enjoy stamping my coloring book images with this ink because it does dry quickly and doesnt smear as much as the water or craft inks.

Versamark....is a watermark ink. This can be used for embossing, chalk popping, stamping if you just want a very subtle tone on tone look. I love to use the versamark ink to use my stamps to create custom scrapbook paper in any image, easily matched to the color I am working with because the ink takes on the color of its paper.

Fluid Chalk Inks share the resilience of pigment ink but stamp & blend like dye ink, drying quickly on absorbent surfaces. Permanent when heat set, they resist smearing, bleeding & fading even when air dried. They give a very flat, muted finished surface - These inks are becoming increasingly popular, personally, I have not used them very much.

With so many ink options out there, it can be hard to find just the type you need, especially if your crafting is not limited to one style.

I recommend you start with a basic black in each style and some markers. This way you can check out the qualities of each type of ink, in black, before you buy one of each color. Markers are an inexpensive option to color all of your images, you can color direct to the stamp or you can stamp in black and color your images to suit your tastes.

Stamping on your scrapbook pages

Stamping in your scrapbook pages - by Angela Anderson - Independent SU Demo

When I first started scrapbooking, I had to have every single patterned paper and sticker I set my eyes on. I had to have all the latest designs and everything cute. I had to have every font sticker, in every color and sometimes I had to buy extra just to make certain I didnt run out. Over the past six years, my scrapbooking has matured, my tastes have run the gammot and I have finally arrived at a scrapbooking style that incorporates the use of rubber stamps. I have discovered that using rubber stamps on your scrapbook pages can be both fulfilling and economic.

Stamps can easily be incorporated into a title, to add to your title, or even use letter stamps to stamp your title, with perfect placement. Stamps are so versatile because they can be tailored to any layout or color. No need to buy your favorite stickers a hundred times, in every color imagagineable, buy stamps in the font you like and use them over and over and over, making them any color or combination of colors to suit your needs. Gone are the days of running out of the letters you need, with stamped letters, you always have the letter you need. Stamps are such an economical solution for scrapbookers. A set of quality letter stamps can last a lifetime and a pad of ink or set of markers to customize your letters will last virtually forever. With Stampin' Up's in color options, your color options can be virtually endless!

Stamping with rollers can make great backgrounds. For example, My ABC's and Dotted lines rollers (From Stampin' Up! )are fabulous options to create customized journaling blocks on your layouts. Again, you can make any color journaling space, you can make it as long or as short as you want.

With virtually any image, and some versa-mark ink, you can create gorgeous patterned paper with a water mark. Better yet, if you choose an ink color to coordinate with your cardstock, you can make beautiful custom paper. Turn the image, flip it, stamp only a part of it, use a darker color, a lighter color, you can customize your paper to suit your needs. Again, if you own the stamp and the ink, you can never run out of the custom design.... Just make some more.

Another wonderful use for stamps is to create your very own stickers. Stickers are all the rage in scrapbooking, why pay more than $1.00 for a pack of flower stickers when you can buy a stamp one time and have flowers for a life time. Buy a beautiful set of stamps and you can create tons of images, in any color you need. Stamp your image in your desired color, cut it out and run it through your xyron.... wala! Your very own, custom made stickers. Not only is your scrapbook page an original, but, it's thrifty too!

Roller stamps can also make great borders. Again, you can make custom border in any color. Use a regular stamp and repeat the image over and over across your cardstock to create a unique custom border.

Rubber stamps can be an expectedly welcome edition to your scrapbook stash. Once you learn different techniques and add them to your scrapbooking tool box, you to can find the benefits of rubberstamping in your scrapbooks. For more information on rubber stamping, please visit my website at http://angi.stampinup.net

How do you incorporate rubber stamping into your scrapbook pages? I have some great Stampin' Up! Blog candy for the most creative answers!

Busting Three Myths About Scrapbooking

I always hear the same things from potential clients and friends when they hear about scrapbooking or see something I have created. When I saw this article, I knew it would be the perfect article to post on here.

by Karen Siegel Fitting

When I tell people about what I do, I often hear things like; "I am not creative at all", "I just don't have the time" , "I would love to be able to scrapbook". If you have the desire to scrapbook, you can make to happen. Read on... three common scrapbooking myths are about to be BUSTED!

Scrapbooking Myth #1: There's no time to scrapbook. Scrapping doesn't require more time than you are willing to give to yourself for other activities (like exercise or the spa), it just requires scheduling. Most retail stores post their scrapbooking times 2 to 3 months in advance.

Independent consultants offer workshops as well and will likely have their schedules prepared 4 to 6 months in advance. My friend, Jackie, only scrapbooks twice a year - at weekend retreat events an independent consultant runs. Jackie knows 6 months in advance when the next retreat will happen and works her family calendar around it. She is able to remain up to date with her photo projects by simply making the most of these two opportunities. In my experience, busy people get things done - because of planning.

Scrapbooking Myth #2: You have to be creative to make a scrapbook style photo album. Putting photos into safe albums is mostly about preserving the memories & stories that the photos represent. Some of my favorite album pages are 'naked'. They lack any stickers or embellishments whatsoever. I love pages like this because they celebrate the memories. Digital scrapbooking and pre-designed layouts make things easier. Just add pictures and your words and you have a beautiful page!

Scrapbooking Myth #3: Scrapbooks are for families with kids. As long as you are taking pictures, kids or no kids, there's plenty to work on! Look at your pictures, aren't they worthy of celebration? It's time to show off your exciting life! Celebrate your everyday, your family and friends. Your story is worth telling and sharing, putting these stories and memories into a safe album is a great way to do this! Now that you know how to bust these myths, it is time to get started. Find a few pictures, find some friends or some help from a store or consultant and celebrate your memories.

Top 5 Quote Websites

I borrowed this article from CropJunkie.com
News for Scrapbooking Addicts

Angie’s Top 5 Web Sites for Quotes to Use in Your Scrapbooking
March 26, 2009
I love quotes. I especially love the obscure quote from a source I’ve never heard of before. It gives me a reason to research the person and learn a little more about the world we live in. With the popularity of scrapbooking, qoutes for use in making your scrapbook are abundant both online and in the form of books you can buy online with ready-made and styled quotes. I prefer to make my own by adding a unique flair to my designs. Sometimes I use lettering, sometimes I hand write them, sometimes I use stamps - it just depends on the vibe I’m trying to get with the page design. One thing for sure is that I rely on these 5 websites as my top 5 web sites for quotes to use in my scrapbooking:

Scrapbook Page with Full of Life stamp set

As I said a few days ago, I am trying to get some more scrapbook pages together, using stamps for my scrapbooking customers. Again, with the Top Notes die, the heart punch and a single fleurette. I love that thing!!! Of course, I used the great Bella Rosa set again and the Full of Life stamp set.

More Botanical Blooms

I am really loving this set, too bad there is only one day left, I sure could do a lot more with it. Anywho, here is a mothers day card, the first picture is the outside, I am so addicted to the top notes die, I could probably use it on every card I make. Also, the Bella Rosa paper has got to be one of the most beautiful sets.

alt=''style='clear:both;float:right; margin:0 0 10px 10px;' />

Here is the inside of the mothers day card. I made it to go with the exploding box I posted a few days ago. I need to do more card insides, I never finish them...

Botanical Blooms

I got this idea from online, from the Stampin up website, designed by Mercedes Weber, it didnt come out quite how I wanted it, but, I think it is cute enough, what do you think?

This card started out as the second in Mercedes' 3 for $5 class, but, wasnt working the way I wanted and I really liked the Botanical blooms, so, I made another one...

Easter Basket

Just a few pictures of the easter basket workshop I am working on, I am gonna fill it with these great decoupage eeggs I found in Martha Stewart Living. The first picture is some sizzix butterflies.

The second pictures is from Botanical blooms, from the spring mini book from SU.

The Easter egg side, is probably my least favorite, but its from the Eight Great Greetings set from SU

Finally, another sizzix shape, a die-cut bunny, I used Mulberry Papers and my copics to color him in.

Bleached Eastern Blooms

I wanted to try some more techniques with bleach, so I tried out this one I found online, I embossed the flowers first with Stampin Stuff Boss Gloss embossing ink. I then used red and black embossing powder respectively. Next, I outlined and hi-lighted the internal part of the flowers with bleach, using my fantastix coloring tool by Tsukineko. I cut out my flowers and glued them to cardstock and used bella rose paper from SU. The stamp is Eastern Blooms from SU. I think it would have looked better if without the shiny gloss, maybe I will try them in Matte next time. Thanks a bunch for stopping by.

From the kitchen of scrapbooking

I am trying to come up with some scrapbook pages for some friends of mine that like to scrapbook, but arent too sure about the stamping thing yet, so, I used the From the Kitchen of stamp set and came up with this: I used the stamp to add my journaling which reads:

1 C Trust
1 TBsp Patience
2 pinches of forgiveness
16 ounces of communication
a dash of insecurity

Combine and simmer for years to come. Add laughter to taste and always serve with a smile

Green Scrapbooking

Going Green with Scrapbooking - Joanna Campbell

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's a new use for masking tape-Take some colored masking tape and adhere it to a piece of waxed paper. Now punch along the tape. Very gently remove the masking tape from the waxed paper, and TA-DAH! You have this cool border I made in green for St. Patty's Day. (After I removed the wax paper, I stuck my tape border down on a piece of green gingham paper and I scalloped one edge with specialty scissors.

To make the pot of gold, I doodled the pot, colored in around it, put glitter in the pot, and then glued on gold sequins. Yep, 3-D is fun stuff.

Just a few cards today

My honey is home between flights tonight, so, I will just post a few things I have been working on this week, here are a few cards I made with some of my new SU sets. I really like the graduation set, I think I am gonna make a few more to sell at my next craft sale. Maybe I will knock out a few in the local HS colors...

Also, I have been working on some really cute easter egg ideas I got from the Martha stewart magazine. They are soooo cute, I had a little trouble with the ones I made, but I got the hang of it now, I need to go pick up a few more wooden eggs from AC Moore and make some more, I want to show you the pretty ones, only!!!! Have a great night!

Plants you grow in your garden can be used as embellishments

ARTICLE - Plants You Grow In Your Garden Can Be Used As Embellishments!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

by John Yazo

Capturing and preserving the natural beauty of your garden can simply be done by creating a scrapbook and journal of your memories. Scrapbooking is a great way to preserve these memories and to share them with friends and family members for generations to come. There is no better feeling than to look back at these precious times and to be able enjoy their memorable moments.

Preserving flowers and plants from your garden can be done by drying or pressing them. They can be saved for years to come and can be used as embellishments in your scrapbooking and card making projects. It is a unique way to add your own personal touch and feelings to your crafts.

Small flowers and leaves can be pressed to make embellishments and larger flowers like sunflower pedals, or leaves can be dried and pressed to create a unique natural background for your scrapbook pages. Other plants like herbs can also be used to add accent when they are dried.

There are many other ways that your preserved plants can be used, such as dried flower arrangements, framed and hung on a wall as natural wall decor. The ideas are endless and the only limit is your imagination.

There are many ways you can create unique, natural scrapbooks that will keep the memories of your gardening experiences alive and able to be passed on to members of your family and friends for years to come.

Drying and pressing your flowers and plants is simple to do and can be done with common household supplies that are already available to you in your home.

Both environmentally friendly and healthy, Organic Gardening is a way of gardening in harmony with nature. Growing a healthy and productive crop in a way that is healthier for both you and the environment.

Thoughts of Father

I am hooked on this sizzix Top Note from Stampin up! I could use almost any stamp and make a card with this thing. Since I dont have a lot of embellishments, I havent been getting a whole lot of sentiments on the card, guess I should work on that next. Thanks for looking!

Exploding Box - Bella Rosa

I started working on this last night, an exploding box for mothers day. I used SU Bella Rosa Paper. I cut some flowers with my sizzix and used a border cutter to trim the inside. I am having a hard time using only SU products, since I only have my starter kit and a few other sets that I couldnt live without, but I didnt invest in a lot of embellishments, I figured I had enough, but, since I have all these workshops I am trying to prepare for, I wish I had more SU stuff.

Another Kind word stamp

Another stamp from the SU, A kind word collection, isnt she adoreable!? I also used prima flower and sizzix grass on the card, I am trying to demonstrate the sizzix more... she would be cute though, all by herself. Of course, I used my copics and a little bleach, I am stuck on this bleach technique I found in a magazine this month, didnt work out as nice on her sky as it did on the turtle though, not sure what i did wrong, I really like my post yesterday, the turtle came out soooo good. Guess I will just have to practice more. I was really hoping to submit this bleach technique, but I cant seem to get it working with the SU stamps, grrr, oh well, off to play some more!

couldnt decide

I couldnt decide if I should submit her or the soldier for Inky Imprssions DT call, so, I put her as a seperate post.... wish me lots o luck!

First Ever Inky Impressions DT challenge

So, Inky Impressions is doing their first ever design team challenge, and I am submitting my first ever design team entry. I really had a difficult time picking which images to submit. I picked the turtle from whimsy, cuz, he is one of my favs and because, I really like the bleaching technique I used to add shadows to the water and sky and the background of the card. The other card I chose is from SU The Free and The Brave, I picked this image, because I dont see it around a lot and its one of my favorites, since I am in the military. Instead of going with the standard green, black and brown camo, I went with desert camo instead, or as we call them ABUs. I love this image, it is one of my favs to color and being in the military, I love that I can send this to deployed friends or use for military promotion ceremonies etc. I might have some better images in my inventory, but I guess being that these are two of my favs, they are the ones I want to submit as some of my best work. I did work on a little girl from my new SU a kind word set, but, I could only pick two and she was tied for my second choice with the military stamp, but, I dont want to break the rules and enter three, so, she will be in my next post. ;)
