More Paper flowers

Are you tired of these flower videos yet? I am so in love with all these fabulous flowers..... Have you seen some of the new flowers by Prima? I love them so much, but there is no way to afford all of them.... So why not create our own. Here is another video for you for these crumpled print flowers, the idea is certainly good for any patterned paper as well!

Tutorial Tuesday: Awesome Paper Flowers

 Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 533 ] - Click to view full image

I found a step by step pictorial on how to make these so everyone can see the steps and items needed to make them. (thank-you to the blogsite Imagine, Create, Inspire for this bloom idea)

TO MAKE THESE ROSES YOU WILL NEED:

~ A 6 petal punch (any size, the size of your rose will vary by the size of the punch you use, ....for this rose I used a punch that has a punched image about the size of a quarter)

~ Scissors

~ Glue

~ Ink

~ Cardstock

~ toothpick or wooden skewer

 Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 733 ] - Click to view full image

Step 1

Punch 3 six petal blooms and ink the edges with a complimentary ink.....

 Reduced: 85% of original size [ 799 x 597 ] - Click to view full image

Step 2

Cut each of the punched blooms as shown below. You will put a slit in one of the blooms, cut 2 petals out of the second and 1 petal out of the third. Giving you 5 pieces to work with......

 Reduced: 85% of original size [ 798 x 483 ] - Click to view full image

Step 3

Glue the petals of each of the larger pieces as shown below. Bring right petal over glued petal to make 3 cones (One cone will have 5 petals, one will have 4 petals and the other 3 petals)....

 Reduced: 85% of original size [ 800 x 551 ] - Click to view full image

Step 4

Below is a picture of one of the glued flower cones. Using your toothpick or skewer curl each of the petals back.....

Step 5

Put some glue into the bottom of the largest cone. I like to snip the bottom point of the other 2 cones so that the middle layers don't sit too high in the center of the bloom. In the pic below you can see how the two smaller cones have the centers snipped out....

Step 6

Layer the cones inside each other, glueing them in place....

To make the centers with the left over bits of petals follow these steps.....

For the 2 petal bloom, curl the left petal back, and curl the right side inward. Wrap the curled petal around the inward curled petal (see photo below this one for further photo help)

For the single petal piece just curl both edges inward, pop a little glue at the bottom and stick it inside the swirl of the 2 petal piece. I snip a tiny bit off the bottom of this piece, add glue and put in the center of the bloom. Picture #4 is of the finished bloom.

Check these funky flowers out!

I am totally loving these beautiful funky flowers by Ellen Woodbridge on The Mystical Blog
To start your Flower you will need to pick out some patterned paper. I have used 4 6×6 sheets for mine. 12×12 paper or some scrap pieces will also work.
Image
Next we need cut some circles from the paper. Circle size are 4½”, 4”, 3”, 2 ½”
Image
To make the petals cut slits around in the edge of the circles, but not all the way into the middle.
Image
Now roll the edge of each petal with a skewer. You can roll the edges as little or as much as you like. Do this for all your circles.
Image
As my paper was not double sided I inked the rolled edges of all the circles using a sponge. You may wish to skip this step.
Image
Now grab some Kindyglitz or glue and glitter and add this to the straight and rolled edges of your petals. To give them some sparkle. Set aside to dry.
Image
You are now ready to assemble your flower. Use foam adhesive to assemble you flower it will also separate the layers.
Image
All you have left is to add a brad or button the centre of your smallest circle and you are done. Your funky flower is now ready to use on a Layout or
card.

Today's Featured Video: make your own paper flowers

Check out this great video! What a great idea to use up all of those paper scraps and mis matched buttons!!

I tried it out and here are two of the flowers I came up with..... I used a 3" scalloped circle, a 2" scalloped circle and a 1 1/4 scalloped circle to give them a layered look, one of the flowers uses all crumbled paper while the other just as is, I inked one and not the other and put buttons on both.. what do you think? Imagine how much money you can save by making your own flowers!!

Make your own Paper Flower

How to Make Paper Flowers

by Kate Pullen

Finished Paper Flower

These pretty paper flowers are ideal for making into bouquets or centerpieces for parties. Stamp a design in a contrasting color ink to really get the full effect when the flowers are formed. Stamp a design that coordinates with other decorations to follow a decorative theme of a party or other celebration.

These flowers are made from sheets of rectangular tissue paper and can be made any size. The flower in the picture was created from pieces of tissue paper that were 5" x 8"

Materials Required
  • 4 sheets of tissue paper
  • Rubber stamps and inks
  • Scissors
  • Craft wire
Instructions to make a large version of this flower can be found here - How to Make a Large Paper Flower.

Stamp the Tissue Paper

Stamp an all over design over the tissue paper. A contrasting color ink, such as the black ink used on white paper, gives the most dramatic effect. Use a stamp that complements other designs, for instance that reflects the theme of a wedding or party, if required.

Tip: Remember that tissue paper is thin and the ink may seep through the paper. Work on a protective surface to ensure that the ink does not damage the work surface.

Fold the Paper

When the ink is dry, accordion fold the paper, folding the short edge. Keep the folds relatively small. The layers of paper will be fluffed out later and this will disguise any uneven folds. Wrap a piece of craft wire around the center of the folded paper.

Finish the Flower

Fluff Out the Paper

Carefully fluff out each piece of paper. This needs to be done carefully and slowly to stop the paper from tearing. The picture shows one half of the flower that has been 'fluffed' compared with the other side that is still folded. When the flower is finished, use the craft wire to attach the flower to a stick or pipe cleaner and stand the flower in a vase. The flowers can also be attached to a piece of string and used as a garland.
